PAUL HICKEY – Senior Recruiter and Sales Trainer
Paul Hickey was born in Limerick in 1963 and educated at Crescent College Comprehensive in the city. He is married to Caroline and has two daughters.
He graduated in 1984 with a B.A. Degree in German and Political Science from NUIG. He holds a Diploma in International Marketing from the University of Louvain la Neuve, Belgium and an Advanced Diploma in Project Management from Dublin Business School.
Paul is a fully trained trainer with distinction.
One highlight of Paul’s 26 year sales career came when he signed a Technology Transfer Agreement with the procurement board of Tata Telecom (9 people) in New Delhi, India in 1996 (worth approximately €4m today). Paul was responsible for this contract from initial contact to signature. The process took approximately one year and required negotiations with all three levels of Tata i.e. Executive, Management and Operations.
Paul has a very strong history in international business development having won large-scale face-to-face contracts for telecommunications equipment from a cold-call start in India (Tata), Saudi Arabia (Saudi Ericsson), Qatar (Q-Tel), Portugal (Portugal Telecom, Iristel), Czech Republic (SPT), UK (BT, Nimans, Rocom, NT Telecoms, Freerose, MTV, Maplin Electronic, Argos), The Netherlands (KPN), Malta Telecom, Poland and Hungary (Matav).
In 2003 and 2004, Paul was the highest billing Sales Recruiter in Ireland having achieved revenues of €230k and €240k respectively. As far as he is aware, these figures have not yet been surpassed by any sales recruiter in Ireland. His success was based on his ability to match talent with roles and the training he provided to sales candidates in preparing for interview i.e. how to sell themselves in person and on paper.
Paul has a passion for sales and persuasion and brings 26 years of sales experience to bear in his training. He is an avid self-educator and cites ‘Sales and Persuasion’ among his hobbies.
Diagnosed with RP (a degenerative eyesight disorder) in 1994, Paul eventually switched to internal sales in 2002 and became one of Ireland’s highest billing Sales recruiters with the HRM Group. He subsequently joined Oracle, where he achieved 192% of a Stg£2.4m sales quota in his final full fiscal year selling to Scottish Government.
Paul has a particular interest in helping people with disabilities to find gainful employment in sales.
